Things I am not good at:
Sometimes it bites me in the ass. My lack of a road bike is evidence of that. Last year, when I decided to do my first tri, I borrowed a bike from a friend who had done the Lake Placid IM a few year earlier. It was hanging in his basement, unused, and he was willing to let me borrow it to train for Iron Girl. I didn't want to buy a bike since I had no intention of ever doing another triathlon again. This was going to be a one and done thing. As soon as I crossed the finish line at Iron Girl, I was hooked. My friend and I immediately decided to sign up for Skinnyman, and I took my friends out to dinner to say thank you for the bike, and ask if I could please use it for 6 more weeks.
It was then that I found out there was a local bike store that did layaway. So, I was going to go pick out a bike, and put it on layaway as soon as possible, so that I would have it to start training on for next year's races. Hubby and I talked about it a few times, my parents and I discussed it. Seemed like a great plan. It would come up in conversation occasionally and my response was always that I was going to do it soon. I never did make it to the bike store. And now if I put one on layaway, I wouldn't have paid it off in time to train on at all. My friend decided he's going to start racing again, so I can't use his bike this year. And I don't have any credit cards, so I can't just buy a bike outright.
My sister says she is going to buy me a bike, because I've helped her out so many times in the past. But she can't until the end of the month. So I'm training on my mountain bike. And to put it mildly, it sucks! I live in a very hilly area. It is not easy riding a mountain bike on hilly roads. Training last year was fun on the bike. This year I dread bike days. I dream of the day I get to ride my own shiny new bike. I really can't wait.
I better write her thank you card now!
